Canon is not one of those companies who keep on doing strange things with the form factor of their products. This means that Canon Legria HF S10 comes as a beautiful surprise. It carries the legacy of Canon in making high quality HD camcorders and adds a number of new features along with a beautiful shape. Legria is a new line and this one here is the flagship product of the Legria line.

The camera comes with a standard on board 32 GB flash storage and you can add another 32 GB using SDHC memory cards. The main thing with the device however is its sensor. In the previous models, the company used the 1/3.2 inches CMOS sensor. This time around, the things are different. There is a 1/2.6 inches sensor and resolution has almost doubled up to 8.59 mega pixels. The device uses 6.1 MP for videos and 8.02 MP for still images. Note that Full HD needs only 2.07 MP so Canon is doing oversampling thus improving the overall quality substantially.

Since the camera uses H.264 High Profile level 4.1 standard, it is possible to records as much as 3 hours of Full HD video right on the internal storage itself. Since the quality is so good, it is obvious that the device would come loaded with some decent features and functionality and there is no disappointment here either. The camera has a number of features which the average user would not really want to fiddle with but people who want to enter the video production big time would simply love the device.

If the first quarter is something to go by, 2009 would be the year when camcorder would reach almost everyone who can afford them. Canon was the high leader in 2008 camcorder production and this year the company looks in no mood to give any ground. Now the prices of the camcorder have gone up by around 20% so the companies are looking at increasing the capabilities of the device to maintain value for money. In such conditions, the Canon Legria HF S10 comes as no different.
