Censorship Maps

Google has recently announced that they are going to release censorship details for their Maps and it was done because of the government’s censorship request worldwide. According to PCWorld the newly released data from Google says that it has been receiving lots of government’s requests around the world to remove content from Google’s different services, YouTube one of the major video sharing application of Google had received 10,000 requests for user data from different government agencies from the past six months.

The new censorship mapping tool was announced on the official Google’s blog and there it was stated that “We are today launching a new Government Requests tool to give people information about the requests for user data or content removal we receive from government agencies around the world. For this launch, we are using data from July-December, 2009, and we plan to update the data in 6-month increments”. So from these steps Google will be able to develop more trust with the different governments along the world and thus the secret data will also be more secured.  According to the company representatives in the blog post “We already try to be as transparent as legally possible with respect to requests. Whenever we can, we notify users about requests that may affect them personally”.
