As the whole world is seeing a very old rivalry between Nokia and Apple on the issues of Patents and this Tuesday this legal back and forth took a new step when Nokia filled a complaint with the US International Trade Commission against Apple and it says that Apple infringes seven Nokia’s patents in virtually all of its mobile phones, portable music players and computers. The infringement is of the key features of in Apple products including the User Interface, Camera, Antenna and power management technologies. The company says that their value to Nokia comes in allowing better user experience, lower manufacturing cost, smaller size and longer battery life.
The history of claiming the patents is very old between these two companies as we have seen that in October Nokia had filled a lawsuit for 10 patents and then Apple filled a countersuit against Nokia earlier this month charging Nokia of infringing 13 patents related to iPhone and now this latest complaint from the Nokia’s side is in front of you. Paul Melin, general manager of patent licensing at Nokia, said in a statement “Nokia has been the leading developer of many key technologies in small electronic devices, “and he further said.”This action [Tuesday's complaint to the USITC] is about protecting the results of such pioneering development.” Who is right and who is wrong is still under consideration and all of us have to wait for the results of these complaints.
