Netbooks are available dime a dozen in the market and most of them are able to keep the prices low by cutting the corners somewhere. In such a case it is a relief to come across something as the Samsung NC10 Netbook PC. The device takes the very concept of netbooks in the league of standard specification subnotebooks. In terms of configuration it is the standard fare but in terms of build quality and product finish, Samsung NC10 easily beats even a proper laptop computer. Yet it does not cost you a bomb.
The configuration of Samsung NC10 is just what can be expected from any subnotebook worth its price. There is the common Intel Atom N270 which is at this point the best balance between price, power and battery usage. The netbook comes with a GB of standard DDR2 RAM. You get a single screw slot so you can upgrade the RAM to 2 GB but then you would have to find another use for 1 GB RAM that is included. The machine also comes with a 160 GB hard drive. The price of SSDs is still making the users and OEMs compromise with the mechanical, moving part hard drives and unfortunately this would not be changing in the near future.
The netbook has a 10.2 inches screen with a standard wide screen resolution
of 1024 X 600. What is special about the display is that it is LED backit. This means that the display brightness would not eat its battery life too much. At the same time the display is also clearly visible in sunlight. Unlike most of the other netbooks, Samsung NC10 come with a 6 cell battery. Samsung rates the battery life at anywhere between 6-8 hours. In the real world usage, with the display cranked to least brightness, WiFi off etc, you might make it last for 6 hours.
The netbook has the best keyboard as compared to any product in its range. It is almost 93% of the standard size keyboard. Typing on the NC10 would not leave your fingers cramped and aching even if you think your fingers are sausages. Samsung had to cut the cost somewhere and after making the great product that NC 10 is, they have provided a slip case which is about as thick as a sock. Anywhere cutting cost in slip case is still better than cutting costs in the machine itself.
