Things to know before buying a Netbook

Before buying anything, we always want to know what exactly we are buying and why do we need it? Just the same way, first we need to know what a netbook is. According to a general definition, a netbook is a small to medium sized, lightweight, low-cost, energy-efficient laptop, generally optimized for internet based services such as web browsing and e-mailing. It can be called a mini computer as it is basically a miniature computer. It’s a lot cheaper than a laptop and has a considerably greater battery life.
Well if you are thinking about buying a netbook, an important thing is that to figure out the exact resin that why you need it? Most of the people buy it because they want to check emails, internet surfing, work on documents; transfer some music to and from their iPods via iTunes etc etc.
The second important thing is you budget, that which brand is more suitable for you and which one c an you afford.
The reliable brands of netbooks that you should first look into are: Acer, Asus, Dell, Lenovo, HP, MSI, Samsung and of course Apple. From there, you can choose the models that you fancy the most or that you can afford.
The next step after deciding that which brand you are going to buy, is to make sure that the netbook has following important features available in it.
1. Before buying the netbook always make sure that the netbook you are buying has an Intel Atom processor in it. As the Intel Atom processor is the fastest and energy efficient processor and if the netbook do not have this processor, it means you are not buying the best.
2. Make sure that the netbook has 1 GB memory that can be upgraded to 2 GB with slight modifications. But, still with the Atom processor, and at least 1 GB of memory, your netbook will have supreme performance.
3. Make sure that the netbook that you are buying has a screen measuring 8.9inches or more, because if the screen is smaller than 8.9 inches then the screen won’t be very pleasant to look at and certainly not to work at. As the resolution will be very small making the picture quality sluggish. And also, if the screen is small, then the keyboard will be.
4. Make sure the netbook has a regular hard drive with at least 80 GB of space.
5. The netbook has the operating system that you are familiar with, as most of the people prefer to have a Linux OS on their netbook, but the people who need netbook for business purposes want XP. It is advisable not to buy a netbook with Vista as this window needs a larger computer to work properly.
6. A standard netbook will have three cell batteries units in it, although netbook like the ASUS EeePC 1000HE, the Acer Aspire One (10-inch), and the Samsung NC10-14GB have six-cell battery units.
7. Make sure that the net book you are buying has at least two USB ports in it, many bid netbook are fitted with three.
